The Amintas Rock Tombs are directly carved into the rock, showcasing remarkable architectural features. The most striking feature of the tombs is their large and magnificent façades. These façades are adorned with columns and friezes reminiscent of ancient Greek temples. The interiors of the tombs are simply carved and consist of several rooms arranged in a layout that may have been used during funeral ceremonies.

Architecture

The architectural style of Lycian tomb architecture reflects features of the Hellenistic period. The architecture of the Amintas Rock Tombs is particularly noted for its columns fashioned in the Ionic order. The columned entrance on the façade of the tomb catches the eye immediately. The upper part of the tomb features a frieze and various reliefs; these elements symbolize the identity and social status of the tomb’s occupant.
